Hawker Wine Safari

Sommelier meets Street-food adventures in Singapore

Merchants launched our signature ‘Hawker Wine Safari’ event in 2015; we love the local Asian cuisine and wanted to share its incredible pairing potential with New World Wines! We think there’s nothing better than chowing down local-style in a hawker centre with an icy cold bottle of your favourite wine and a couple of mates!

In 2016, Singapore Tourism Board got wind of these great events we were hosting, and they invited us to collaborate with them for the 2017 Singapore Food Festival!

These artisanal-wine-meets-local food adventures are hosted at our favourite hawker centres and ‘Tze Char’ haunts around Singapore’s coolest, local neighbourhoods. We’ve popped up at Airport Road, Tiong Bahru, Maxwell, Chinatown Complex and Newton Circus Hawker Centres.

Hosted by the Merchants team and sometimes visiting winemakers, this is a unique opportunity to learn how to pair local hawker delicacies with exceptional boutique wines!

Itinerary

Guests are welcomed at a pre-determined meeting point with a glass of chilled bubbles, and then we enjoy a colourful, delicious, local street food feast on communal tables paired with 5 carefully selected wines served in fine stemware. The events usually run from 630pm – 830pm; all dishes, wines and chilled water are included. Guests are guided on the various food and wine pairings, origins of the dishes, and the colourful history of Singapore’s hawker centres and cuisine.

So join Merchants on its signature Hawker Wine Safaris and Local Food Walks, and be guided on an odyssey of local cuisine paired with boutique, small-batch wine.
