Olive Farm Wines visits Singapore for Wine Tasting

In August this year, 2 young winemakers from Olive Farm Wines in Swan Valley came to this little red dot to share their stories and their wines for tasting.

From private corporate event to wine tasting at Merchants Wine Cellar in Duxton and PasarBella, check out what Anthony Yurisich, 4th generation owner and winemaker of Olive Farm Wines, and Shaun Luetich, winemaker thought of Singapore!

Bass River Wine Dinner

Frank Butera from Bass River in Gippsland arrived in Singapore with suitcases stuffed full of Italian, family produce for our dining pleasure! We enjoyed fabulous authentic homemade salami, olives, olive oil, Gippsland cheeses along with Chef Edward’s culinary creations and all paired with Bass River bubbles, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Limoncello, Grappa and Iced Riesling!

We made some wonderful new friends as well including Christian Schiller and his lovely wife Annette, who posted a charming blog piece on the Bass River Wine Dinner here:

Woman of Wine in Singapore

The beautiful and  knowledgeable Denise McCann, founder/director of boutique wine consultancy Women of Wine based in the Yarra Valley dropped in on the Friday of the F1 weekend to guide us on an Australian Wine Tour. (Denise loves F1 almost as much as she loves wine, so she got to combine her 2 passions in one weekend). Denise created Women of Wine to lift the profile of women in the Wine Industry – gotta love that!

During our vinous exploration, it was a real eye-opener to compare the same grape variety from different wine regions. For example we tasted the Schwarz Dustkicker Shiraz – a full bodied Barossa fruit bomb and compared it with a medium bodied Shiraz from the Geographe region produced by Yilgarnia. What a revelation and amazing that these 2 wines are the same grape variety from the same country but such different styles.

Australia has such variety of ‘Terroir’ – and we love to celebrate and share this diversity with the Singapore wine loving community. Thanks Denise and all of our guests who joined the Merchants Wine Tour.

Towerhill Estate – Wine and Truffle Dinner

Julian Hanna, owner of Towerhill Estate in Mount Barker, WA, visited Merchants recently – bringing with him famous truffles from neighbouring Manjimup, in WA.

A wine dinner with Julian the Riesling Whisperer was hosted at Merchants, and guests enjoyed  Julian’s magnificent Rieslings and Cabernet Merlot, including the 2008 Riesling – winner of Decanter Gold. The highlight of the evening (besides, the wines and truffles) was Julian’s impromptu Slam Poetry dedicated to an old work colleague…

Check out the Truffle Dinner and Julian’s poetry in our video!
