We are a specialist producer of single vineyard Pinot Noir. All Hilok wines are grown and produced in the Alexandra Basin region of Central Otago, New Zealand's most southerly sub region. It is here, in these marginal growing conditions, on the very edge of winemaking viability, that Hilok’s Pinot Noir vines thrive and reward us with world class wine of outstanding flavour and quality.
Our vineyard is located high on a plateau near Clyde, Central Otago, boasting its own unique microclimate and terroir. It’s spectacular, barren, rocky and vast dryland country prone to soaring summer and freezing winter temperatures.
The unique ‘Brassknocker’ soil is glacially deposited and has a very high quartz content. This helps reflect heat during the day and assists with heat retention during the night.
A mix of Pinot Noir clones which include UCD5, 114, 115, 667, 777 and Abel, all on grafted rootstock, sit on gently sloping north-easterly slopes.
Wild thyme proliferates in and around the vineyard, adding to the aromatic complexity of the wine that is produced.
There are 360 degree mountain views and the outlook is spectacular!
